Britain has taken a strict stance on its visa policies. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Minister Shabana Mahmood have introduced major changes in Parliament.
After presenting the new rules, Shabana Mahmood announced that any country that refuses to take back its criminals
illegal immigrants will face a Trump-style visa ban. She also said that more reforms will be brought in to tackle illegal immigration effectively.
First Countries to Face the Visa Ban
The UK has already identified the first countries that will face this restriction.
Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will not receive British visas unless their governments improve cooperation on deportation procedures.
According to the UK Home Office, these countries are being penalized because of very low cooperation and obstructive return processes.
Thousands of illegal migrants and criminals from these nations are currently living in the UK.
Reports also suggest that India is among several countries considered resistant to taking back illegal migrants and may be added to this list in the coming year.
Human Rights Laws and Deportation Reforms
Non-cooperation includes issues like embassies delaying deportation paperwork or forcing individuals to sign their documents.
To fix this, the UK plans to change human rights laws to make deportations easier and stop migrants from “gaming the system.”
Stricter Rules for Legal Appeals
The government will also reform how courts interpret Article 8 (right to family and private life).
The definition of family will be limited to immediate family only, such as parents or children.
This is aimed at preventing people from using weak or false relationships to stay in the UK.
Migrants will now need to present all legal arguments in a single appeal. If they lose the case, they will be required to leave the country.
