For this, the government has released about ₹42.5 crore.

Delhi’s EV Policy and Its Extension

The Delhi government introduced its first EV policy in 2020, which remained effective for three years and expired in August 2023.

During this time, EV sales in the capital increased rapidly, making Delhi one of India’s top EV markets.

However, delays in launching the new policy caused subsidy payments to stop, leaving thousands of vehicle owners waiting.

Now, the government has extended the existing policy until next year and decided to release all pending subsidies in phases.

Approval of 26,000+ Applications

Over the past ten months, the Transport Department has received 26,862 subsidy applications.

These applications have been thoroughly verified, with duplicate entries removed. A final list has been prepared and sent for Cabinet approval.

Once approved, the eligible EV owners will get their subsidy amounts in installments.

Digitalization of the Subsidy Process

To make the process faster and more transparent, the Delhi government is fully digitizing the subsidy system.

The payment process will be connected to the National Vehicle Portal (Vahan Portal), allowing users to complete all steps—application, verification, and payment—on a single platform.

A technical committee has also been formed to review new EV models and decide which vehicles qualify for the subsidy.

Aim and Impact of the EV Policy

The main goal of Delhi’s EV policy is to encourage the use of electric vehicles as a clean alternative to petrol and diesel.

The policy has helped reduce pollution, expand charging infrastructure, and strengthen the local EV industry.

Currently, over 50,000 electric vehicles are running on Delhi’s roads, showing the success and impact of the policy.
