Lock and Share your Aadhaar safely with the new App

Carrying a physical Aadhaar card is no longer necessary.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar app for Android and iOS that lets you store your Aadhaar digitally on your smartphone.

The app gives users more control over their personal data while keeping it secure.

With the app, you can share your Aadhaar via a QR code and even choose which details to share.

For example, if only your name and photo are needed, you can hide sensitive details like your address or date of birth.

Lock and Unlock Biometric Data

The new app allows you to lock or unlock your biometric data, so it cannot be misused. You can also track when and where your Aadhaar has been used.

Additionally, the app lets you store Aadhaar cards of multiple family members in one place, making it a complete solution for digital identity management.

According to UIDAI, the app provides “enhanced security, easy access, and a completely paperless experience — anytime, anywhere.”

How to Download and Set Up the Aadhaar App

Download the Aadhaar app from the Play Store or App Store.

Grant the necessary permissions.

Enter your Aadhaar number and verify it with your registered mobile number.

Complete a quick face authentication step.

Set a security PIN, and the app is ready to use.

This launch aims to make Aadhaar usage more secure, flexible, and user-friendly, reducing the need for carrying physical cards.

Updates to Aadhaar Details Still Limited

Despite reports in the media, you cannot update your name, date of birth, or mobile number online as of now.

Only address updates can be done online through the myAadhaar portal.

All other demographic changes still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar enrolment centre.

UIDAI explains:

To update your address, log in to the myAadhaar portal using your Aadhaar number and OTP.

Upload the required proof of address documents.

Other details like mobile number, email, and relationship status must be updated offline at a centre.

So, while the app makes digital access easier, not all updates can yet be done online.
