Bengaluru commuters will need to pay close attention to the road they use from next month. The city is set to introduce new vehicle restrictions on five major flyovers and elevated roads.
The restrictions will apply to the BGS (Sirsi Circle) flyover, Peenya flyover, Electronics City Elevated Expressway, Metro double-decker flyover and Ballari Road airport flyover.
According to a Deccan Herald report, the new rules will be introduced in phases. Restrictions on four flyovers will begin from September 4, while those on the Electronics City Elevated Expressway will start from September 11.
Which Vehicles Will Be Banned on the BGS and Peenya Flyovers?
BGS (Sirsi Circle) Flyover
On the BGS flyover on Mysuru Road, heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited throughout the day.
Other goods vehicles, including three-wheeler goods autorickshaws, will face restrictions during busy hours.
They will not be allowed between 7 AM and 11 AM and again from 4 PM to 10 PM.
Peenya Flyover
The Peenya flyover will also have restrictions on certain vehicles.
Passenger auto-rickshaws and three-wheeler goods autorickshaws will be banned 24 hours a day.
Heavy and medium goods vehicles will face restrictions during the morning and evening peak hours.
Major Restrictions on Electronics City Elevated Expressway
The Electronics City Elevated Expressway will have some of the strictest restrictions among the five routes.
From September 11, heavy, medium and light goods vehicles will be prohibited between 6 AM and 10 PM.
Two-wheelers will face a 24-hour ban on the elevated expressway.
Passenger auto-rickshaws and three-wheeler goods autorickshaws will also be prohibited round the clock.
This means two-wheeler and auto-rickshaw users will need to find alternative routes when travelling through this corridor.
Metro Double-Decker and Airport Road Flyovers
The Metro double-decker flyover between Silk Board and Ragigudda will have a 24-hour ban on heavy goods vehicles.
The Ballari Road, or airport road, flyover between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction will have wider restrictions.
Two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws will be prohibited 24 hours a day.
In addition, all categories of goods vehicles will face restrictions between 6 AM and 10 PM.
When Will the New Rules Start?
The restrictions on the Sirsi Circle, Peenya, Metro double-decker and airport road flyovers will come into effect from September 4.
The restrictions on the Electronics City Elevated Expressway will begin from September 11.
With several major routes affected, commuters using two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and goods vehicles should check the new rules and plan alternative routes before travelling.
