After a break of more than five years, IndiGo Airlines, India’s largest carrier, is resuming direct flights to mainland China.
Starting October 26, 2025, a daily Kolkata-Guangzhou flight will operate non-stop.
A second route from Delhi to Guangzhou will begin on November 10, 2025, strengthening air connectivity between the two countries.
A Milestone for India’s Aviation Network
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) celebrated the resumption of these flights as a “milestone for India’s growing aviation network.”
AAI emphasized that the route marks a renewed chapter in international air travel, creating new opportunities for trade, tourism, and economic cooperation.
Direct flights were halted in early 2020 due to COVID-19, and resumed only now after overcoming regulatory and diplomatic hurdles.
The new flights provide easy access to Guangzhou, a major commercial hub, for Indian business travelers, students, and tourists.
Boosting Trade and Tourism
The resumption is expected to strengthen business and tourism ties between India and China.
Improved air connectivity will make export logistics easier, support sectors like electronics, pharmaceuticals, and textiles, and encourage cross-border tourism.
With Kolkata and Delhi as key gateways, these routes are set to revive business travel and student exchanges, helping normalize travel and economic relations between the two nations.
