The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revised the charges for Aadhaar card updates starting October 1, 2025.
This is the first hike in five years, and it will remain in effect until September 30, 2028. After that, fees may increase again from October 2028.
New Aadhaar Update Fees
Demographic updates (name, address, mobile number, date of birth): ₹75 (earlier ₹50)
Biometric updates (fingerprint, photo, iris scan): ₹125 (earlier ₹100)
Aadhaar creation at home: unchanged at ₹700
Special Guidelines for Children
UIDAI has provided partial relief for children:
Free biometric updates for children aged 5–7 years and 15–17 years
For children aged 7–15 years, updates will remain free until September 30, 2026
Why Fees Have Been Increased
According to UIDAI, the fee hike will help:
Maintain service quality
Cover the operational costs of Digital Seva Kendras and update centers
Ensure smoother functioning of Aadhaar services across India
Impact on the Public
The new charges may put extra financial pressure on people, especially those in rural areas and small towns, where access to digital services is already limited.
UIDAI has advised citizens to update Aadhaar details on time to avoid problems in availing government and banking services.
Those who haven’t updated Aadhaar in the past 10 years will now need to submit documents again, based on the revised fee structure.
Conclusion
The increase in Aadhaar update charges is aimed at strengthening India’s digital identity system and ensuring better service delivery.
However, with higher costs, it becomes important for the public to plan Aadhaar updates early to avoid financial strain in the future.
