PM’s Navratri Wishes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted women beneficiaries through a post on X, saying, “On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, I extend my best wishes to all mothers and sisters joining the Ujjwala family.
This step not only brings them joy during the festival but also strengthens our commitment to women empowerment.”
Financial Outlay of Rs 676 Crore
With this expansion, the total number of PMUY connections will reach 10.58 crore. The Government has sanctioned Rs 676 crore, which includes:

Beneficiaries do not have to pay for the connection, the first refill, or the stove. These expenses are borne by the Government of India and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). They can opt for:
14.2 kg single bottle connection
5 kg single bottle connection
5 kg double bottle connection
Progress of Ujjwala Yojana
Launched in May 2016, PMUY originally aimed for 8 crore connections, achieved by September 2019.
Later, Ujjwala 2.0 was launched in August 2021 with a target of 1 crore additional connections, completed by January 2022.
The Government then added 60 lakh more connections (achieved in December 2022) and another 75 lakh (achieved in July 2024).

As of July 2025, more than 10.33 crore connections had been released across India, making PMUY one of the largest clean energy initiatives in the world.
