US Exempts Certain Products from Tariffs

US Customs and Border Protection announced that products such as smartphones, laptops, memory chips, and other items will be exempt from the global tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

This exemption, announced late Friday, applies to some consumer electronics and critical chip manufacturing equipment.

China’s Response to the US Decision

China’s Commerce Ministry called the US decision to exempt electronic and chip products from tariffs “a small step.” They stated that they are evaluating the impact of this exemption.

A spokesperson from the ministry said, “We urge America to take further action by correcting its mistakes, fully removing reciprocal tariffs, and returning to a path of mutual respect.”

Which Companies Benefit from the Exemption?

The new tariff exemptions will benefit companies like Nvidia, Dell, and Apple, which manufacture iPhones and other premium products in China.

However, most Chinese goods are still subject to high tariffs, with rates as high as 145 percent.

This is because China is not included in the 90-day tariff relief announced by the US.

China’s Retaliation Against US Tariffs

This development comes as China has imposed retaliatory tariffs of up to 125 percent on US goods, effective Saturday.

China has consistently taken a strong stance against the US, its largest trading partner.
