Ujjwala Scheme: LPG Cylinder Now Just Rs 600 for Ujjwala Beneficiaries

in a significant development, the Union Cabinet has approved exciting changes to the Ujjwala Yojana, a government initiative.

Beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme can now avail gas cylinders for just Rs 600. The government has ramped up the subsidy provided within this scheme.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, after the cabinet meeting, announced that the subsidy amount for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per cylinder.

This move is set to benefit a whopping 9.59 crore beneficiaries enrolled in the program.

Understanding PMUY (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana)

The Indian government offers subsidies for LPG connections through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive financial assistance of Rs 1600 for a 14.2 kg cylinder or Rs 1150 for a 5 kg cylinder. This cash assistance covers various expenses, including:

Security deposit for the cylinder: Rs 1250 for 14.2 kg and Rs 800 for 5 kg.

Pressure regulator: Rs 150.

LPG hose: Rs 100.

Domestic Gas Consumer Card: Rs 25.

Inspection/Installation/Demonstration Fee: Rs 75.

Additionally, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) offer an interest-free loan facility to scheme beneficiaries.

This loan covers expenses for the LPG stove (Rs. 565 for 1 burner stove and Rs. 990 for 2 burner stove) and the refill cost of the first LPG cylinder received at the time of connection.
