New Delhi:
In a bid to thwart fraudulent activities involving SIM cards, the government is actively considering a multifaceted approach that centers around UID (Unique Identification) verification.
Introduction of UID Verification
The government is set to introduce UID verification as a powerful tool to combat telecom network fraud. This innovative system will enable customers to access all their SIM card details in one centralized location.
It will provide a transparent mechanism for users to monitor the number of SIM cards registered under their name and their usage.
Additionally, it will streamline the process of deactivating specific numbers when desired.
How UID Verification will Bolster Security and Oversight?
One of the key advantages of this initiative is that it will empower the government to more effectively monitor and prevent the issuance of fake SIM cards and the violation of prescribed limits.
Currently, a maximum of 9 SIM cards can be issued to a single user under one identification,
but the government is contemplating reducing this limit to 4.
Government’s Commitment to Combating Fraud
In line with their commitment to preventing fraud within the telecom network, the government and relevant agencies are transitioning from manual processes to advanced systems.
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently emphasized their determination to combat fraud and safeguard the integrity of the telecom network in a conversation with Zee Business.
This government initiative aims to bolster security and transparency within the telecom sector, making it more challenging for fraudsters to exploit SIM cards for illicit purposes.
