Google is changing the way ads appear in Search by blending them with AI features. Earlier, AI results and ads were shown separately, but now both will work together using Gemini AI.
At its I/O 2026 event, Google announced that Search is becoming more conversational, and ads will also become more helpful and personalized.
Conversational Ads Inside AI Mode
Google is testing new “Conversational Ads” in AI Mode powered by Gemini. Instead of showing only sponsored links, these ads will respond directly to user questions in a more natural way.
For example, if someone asks how to make their home smell like a luxury spa, the AI may suggest ideas along with relevant products or services.
Google says about 75 percent of AI Mode users make faster decisions, so it is focusing on smarter ad formats.
Highlighted Answers With Sponsored Suggestions
Another feature called “Highlighted Answers” will show sponsored recommendations inside AI-generated results.
When AI Mode gives multiple answers, some paid suggestions may also appear, but they will be clearly marked as “Sponsored.”
Google also plans to bring these AI-based ads to regular Search in the coming months, not just AI Mode.
Smarter Shopping and Instant Business Help
Shopping searches will become more intelligent. If a user searches for products like TVs, refrigerators, or coffee machines, Gemini will suggest options and explain which product may be best for their needs in simple language.
Google is also adding a “Business Agent for Leads,” which works like a chat assistant. Users can directly ask questions about universities or businesses and get instant replies inside Search.
Major Upgrades Coming to Google Search
Google is upgrading Search with the Gemini 3.5 Flash model, making it faster and more accurate. The search box will better understand long and detailed queries.
Users will also be able to search using images, videos, documents, and even Chrome tabs. Google is also introducing tools that can generate visuals, diagrams, and dashboards directly from search queries.
Always-On AI Monitoring for Live Updates
A new Autonomous Monitoring Agent will track news, blogs, finance, and sports updates continuously. This will help users get real-time information directly in Search.
With these updates, Google Search is moving toward a fully AI-driven experience where answers, ads, and recommendations work together seamlessly.
