Voter ID and Aadhaar are two essential documents for every Indian citizen.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed officials to link Aadhaar numbers with voter IDs to ensure accuracy in voter records. This step aims to eliminate duplicate and fake voters from the system.
Previous Efforts to Link Voter ID with Aadhaar
In 2015, the Election Commission launched the National Voter List Purification Program (NERPAP) from March to August.
During this initiative, over 30 crore voter IDs were successfully linked with Aadhaar. Now, the linking process is being reintroduced to further strengthen the electoral system.
Here’s how you can link your Voter ID with your Aadhaar card:
Linking Voter ID with Aadhaar Using the App
Download the App: Install the Voter Helpline app from the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS).
Login or Register: Open the app and log in using your Voter ID (EPIC number). If you don’t have an account, create one by providing your name, email, and other personal details.
Find the Aadhaar Link Option: Look for the “Link Aadhaar” or “Aadhaar Linking” option on the home screen and select it.
Enter Aadhaar Details: Provide your Aadhaar number along with your name and date of birth.
OTP Verification: An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Enter this OTP in the app.
Confirmation: Once verified, you will receive a confirmation message stating that your Voter ID has been successfully linked to your Aadhaar.
Linking Voter ID with Aadhaar via Website
Visit the Official Website: Go to the National Voter’s Service Portal (NVSP) or Electoral Roll Search website.
Login or Sign Up: If you already have an account, log in. Otherwise, create a new account by providing your name, email, and other required details.
Select Aadhaar Linking Option: After logging in, choose the option “Link Aadhaar” or “Update Aadhaar Details.”
Enter Aadhaar Information: Provide your Aadhaar number along with additional details such as name and date of birth. Complete the captcha and click “Submit.”
OTP Verification: An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter this OTP on the website and click “Verify.”
Confirmation: If all details match, you will receive a confirmation message stating that your Voter ID has been successfully linked to your Aadhaar.
