BSNL, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, is gearing up to introduce its highly anticipated 4G service in Tamil Nadu soon.
The news was revealed in a report published by The Hindu.
The telecom company, in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), aims to complete the infrastructure construction for the rollout within 18 months, with equipment and software expected to be delivered by December 2023.
BSNL’s 4G Service to Cover Tamil Nadu First
BSNL’s 4G service will initially be made available in Tamil Nadu, following the completion of installation, trial, and testing phases by June 2024.
However, Kerala, which holds significant importance in BSNL’s revenue, is expected to receive the 4G service at a later stage.
To prepare for the upcoming service, BSNL has encouraged customers to obtain their 4G SIM cards free of charge from its service centers.
5G Service on the Horizon
In an effort to enhance connectivity, BSNL has outlined plans to swiftly transition from 4G to 5G service.
By implementing a software upgrade, BSNL aims to introduce 5G service shortly after the launch of 4G.
The primary objective is to provide high-speed internet access to its users.
BSNL’s Strategy
As per the report, BSNL intends to discontinue its 3G services once the 4G service is launched.
However, the company plans to maintain its 2G services. BSNL recognizes that a substantial portion of its revenue is derived from 2G services, which cater to basic feature phones primarily used for voice calls.
