J&K Approves Six Free LPG Cylinders for AAY Families, giving eligible Antyodaya Anna Yojana households in Jammu and Kashmir relief on domestic cooking gas costs.
The government has approved the scheme, while detailed implementation orders are expected shortly.
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma informed the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on September 24 that the six-cylinder scheme had received approval from the competent authority.

The scheme is meant for families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, which is intended to support the poorest households.
Under the earlier proposal, the cost of six domestic LPG refills per year was to be provided through Aadhaar-enabled Direct Benefit Transfer to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
The government had said earlier that the exact financial implications and other implementation details would be worked out after finalising the scheme’s modalities.
As of January 1, 2025, around 8.79 lakh beneficiaries were covered under AAY in Jammu and Kashmir, according to information provided by the government in the Assembly.
How the Free LPG Scheme Will Work
The approved assistance covers the refilling cost of six domestic LPG cylinders per year for eligible AAY families.
The benefit is planned through DBT, meaning the eligible beneficiary’s bank account will be used for the transfer.
The exact process for claiming the benefit, including the effective date, documentation requirements and other operational details, is expected to become clear once the government issues the necessary orders.
Until those details are formally released, AAY beneficiaries should rely on official government communication rather than unofficial messages about registration or payments.
Who Can Get the LPG Benefit
The benefit is specifically linked to Antyodaya Anna Yojana families in Jammu and Kashmir. AAY is a food-security category intended for the most vulnerable households.
The government’s earlier announcement had proposed six free domestic LPG refills annually for these families.
The latest Assembly statement confirms that the scheme has now received approval, while the detailed rollout is awaited.
The development is also separate from the nationwide LPG authentication requirements.
From October 1, 2026, biometric Aadhaar authentication is required for booking domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy.

They should wait for the official implementation details and check the requirements once the government issues the rollout order.
