Farmers may soon need a Farmer ID to take advantage of various government agricultural schemes.
Under the AgriStack initiative, a special campaign will be conducted to create a Farmer Registry covering farmers across the state.
The proposed campaign will run from September 25 to December 31. The aim is to register 100% of farmers and create their Farmer IDs.
The registration will cover not only landowners but also farmers cultivating land on rent or sharecropping arrangements.
Farmer ID Will Be Important for Government Schemes
The Farmer ID is being introduced as an important part of the Farmer Registry under AgriStack. According to the Agriculture Department, farmers will need this ID to avail themselves of benefits under various government agricultural schemes.
The registry will help authorities identify farmers and link their agricultural and land-related information with the official system. This can also make it easier to identify eligible beneficiaries for government schemes.
Special Camps Will Be Set Up in Villages
The registration campaign will focus on villages where farmer registration numbers are currently low. Special camps will be organised to complete the registration process and resolve issues related to farmers’ records.
During these camps, officials will work on land record corrections, name matching and determination of land shares.
Village secretariats equipped with electricity, internet connectivity, chairs and tables will be given priority for organising the camps.
Landowners and Tenant Farmers Can Get Farmer ID
The Farmer Registry will not only cover farmers who own agricultural land. Farmers cultivating land through sharecropping or rental arrangements will also be included in the registration process.
This means that eligible farmers with different types of cultivation arrangements can be brought into the Farmer Registry, subject to the applicable verification and government rules.
Revenue Officials Will Help Farmers
Revenue accountants have been given an important role in the registration campaign. Where required, they may stay in villages and help resolve land record-related problems on the spot.
Revenue accountants, agriculture department technical assistants, block technical managers and assistant technical managers will work as operators for the Farmer Registry.
Officials and field workers from the Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Horticulture departments will also support the campaign. BC-Sakhis and Krishi-Sakhis will be trained and deployed to assist farmers during registration.
Government Order Is Still Awaited
Although the proposed campaign is scheduled from September 25 to December 31, the official order has not yet reached the district.
Deputy Agriculture Director Ashwani Kumar Singh said that a Farmer ID will be required to avail government agricultural schemes. He also clarified that the campaign will be implemented once the government order is received.
Farmers should therefore keep their land and identity-related documents ready and follow official instructions when the registration process begins.
