Ather Energy has announced a new safety-focused feature called Pothole+ Alert for its electric scooters.
The Bengaluru-based EV maker says the feature will help riders identify potholes, broken roads, uneven surfaces, and speed breakers while navigating.
The company has also confirmed that it will unveil a brand-new affordable family electric scooter on August 29 during Ather Community Day 2026.
Pothole+ Alert Warns Riders About Road Hazards
The new Pothole+ Alert feature will be available on Gen 2 and newer Ather scooters, including the Ather 450 Apex, 450X, and Rizta Z.
While using navigation, riders will receive alerts about potholes, damaged roads, uneven patches, and speed breakers directly on the scooter’s dashboard.
Riders using the Ather Halo smart helmet or any Bluetooth-compatible helmet will also hear voice alerts, allowing them to stay focused on the road.
According to Ather, the feature uses road intelligence created from data collected by its connected scooter fleet. It is expected to be especially useful during the rainy season when potholes are often hidden under water.
Ather co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta said the company spent nine years developing this feature.
He explained that the biggest challenge was collecting enough real-world road data from millions of connected scooters to make the system accurate and reliable.
New Affordable Family Scooter to Debut on August 29
After the strong response to the Ather Rizta, the company is expanding its family scooter lineup.
Ather will showcase its first production electric scooter based on the new EL platform on August 29, 2026.
The upcoming model is aimed at buyers looking for a more affordable electric scooter and has already been spotted testing multiple times.
Sales are expected to begin around the festive season. The scooter is likely to have a starting ex-showroom price of over ₹1 lakh, making it more affordable than the Rizta while helping Ather compete in the high-volume mass-market segment.
Flexible Platform With Practical Features
The new EL platform is designed to support battery packs ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh, giving Ather the flexibility to launch multiple variants at different price points.
It can also accommodate 10-inch to 14-inch wheels, making it suitable for different scooter designs.
Based on the test model, the upcoming scooter is expected to feature:
14-inch front wheel and 12-inch rear wheel
Front disc brake and rear drum brake
Wide front apron
Handlebar-mounted rectangular LED headlamp
Flat single-piece seat
Large floorboard
Under-seat storage with space for two helmets
