Chhattisgarh Govt Extends Retirement Age of Anganwadi Workers

In a significant move, the Chhattisgarh government has announced an extension of the retirement age for Anganwadi workers and assistants, bringing smiles to many faces.

The retirement age has been raised from 62 years to 65 years, and this decision has been formalized by the Women and Child Development Department through an official order.

Boost in Honorarium

This decision comes as a follow-up to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s commitment in the 2023-24 budget, where he pledged to address the demands of Anganwadi workers and assistants.

Starting from April 1, 2023, Anganwadi workers will receive a substantial increase in their honorarium. Here’s a breakdown:

  1. Anganwadi Workers: Monthly honorarium raised from Rs 6,500 to Rs 10,000.
  2. Anganwadi Helpers: Monthly honorarium increased from Rs 3,250 to Rs 5,000.
  3. Mini Anganwadi Workers: Monthly honorarium hiked from Rs 4,500 to Rs 7,500.

Added Benefits

In addition to these enhancements, there are provisions for additional benefits. Anganwadi workers and assistants will now receive an ex-gratia amount in case of death, and a lump sum payment upon retirement. Specifically:

  1. Ex-gratia amount on death: Raised to Rs 50,000.
  2. Lump sum payment on retirement: Rs 50,000 for Anganwadi workers and Rs 25,000 for helpers.

Significance Ahead of Elections

This decision holds particular significance as Chhattisgarh is set to hold assembly elections this year.

It is seen as a crucial move by the Bhupesh Baghel government to garner support, especially in light of previous protests by Anganwadi workers regarding their demands.

The decision is expected to bring much-needed relief to Anganwadi workers across the state.
