Axis Bank Cash Transaction Rules are set to change from December 1, 2026, bringing fewer free cash deposits and withdrawals for several savings account holders.

The bank is reducing the monthly free cash transaction limit from four transactions to three, while keeping the existing Rs 1 lakh transaction value limit unchanged.

The changes will affect selected domestic and NRI savings accounts, including Easy Access and equivalent accounts, along with Krishi and Sahaj savings accounts.

Customers who regularly visit bank branches to deposit or withdraw money may need to adjust their banking habits to avoid additional charges.

Apart from cash transaction limits, Axis Bank is also revising minimum balance penalties, cheque return charges and certain account-related benefits.

These changes will apply to different categories of savings account holders from the same date.

Axis Bank Cash Transaction Rules: What Changes?

Under the existing rules, eligible Axis Bank customers can make four free cash transactions every month or carry out cash transactions worth up to Rs 1 lakh, whichever limit is reached earlier.

From December 1, the number of free cash transactions will decrease from four to three. However, the overall Rs 1 lakh cash transaction limit will remain unchanged.

This means customers who complete three cash transactions within a month may have to pay additional charges for further deposits or withdrawals, even if their total transaction value has not reached Rs 1 lakh.

The revised limit covers domestic and NRI Easy Access and equivalent savings accounts, along with Krishi and Sahaj accounts.

Customers should check the applicable schedule of charges for their particular account to understand the fees payable after exceeding the free transaction allowance.

Minimum Balance Penalty Increased to Rs 600

Axis Bank is also increasing the maximum monthly service charges for customers who fail to maintain the required Average Monthly Balance (AMB).

For domestic Easy Access and equivalent savings accounts, the maximum penalty at semi-urban branches will increase from Rs 300 to Rs 600. At rural branches, it will rise from Rs 150 to Rs 600.

For NRI Easy Access and equivalent accounts, the maximum charge at semi-urban and rural branches will also increase from Rs 300 to Rs 600.

The maximum penalty for metro and urban branches will remain Rs 600.

The bank will continue calculating the minimum balance penalty at 6% of the balance shortfall, subject to the applicable maximum charge.

There is some relief for salaried customers, as these minimum balance charges will not apply to them.

 Cheque Return Charges Also Revised

Customers who use cheques for payments will also need to pay attention to the revised charges.

The fee for an outward cheque return will increase to a flat Rs 200 per return. Under the earlier structure, customers paid Rs 50 for the first return and Rs 100 for subsequent returns.

There will also be a significant increase in certain NRI account charges.

For NRI Burgundy, Priority, Prestige and Prime account holders, the charge for a deliverable return will increase from Rs 50 to Rs 500 per return.

Customers who frequently issue cheques should ensure that sufficient funds are available in their accounts before making payments.

EDGE REWARD Points to Stop for Select Customers

Axis Bank is also discontinuing EDGE REWARD points for selected savings account categories from December 1, 2026.

The affected account categories include Burgundy, Priority, Prestige, Prime NRI and Easy NRI.

Customers holding these accounts will no longer earn EDGE REWARD points under the existing programme after the revised rules take effect.

This change may particularly affect customers who regularly use eligible banking services and debit cards to accumulate reward points.

Account holders should review their existing reward benefits and understand how the discontinuation will affect their banking arrangements.

Higher Relationship Value Requirement for Premium Accounts

Another important change concerns the Total Relationship Value (TRV) requirement for selected savings accounts.

Axis Bank is increasing the applicable TRV requirement from 75% to 100% of the prescribed level for selected domestic and NRI account categories.

These include Prime, Prestige, Priority, Sampann, Advantage, Arise Women’s and Burgundy accounts.

The change means eligible customers will need to meet the full prescribed relationship value requirement instead of the earlier 75% threshold.

Customers should check the specific requirements applicable to their account category.

What Should Axis Bank Customers Do Before December 1?

With the revised charges approaching, customers should review their savings account category and check the updated schedule of charges.

Those who frequently deposit or withdraw cash should keep track of their monthly free transaction allowance. Planning cash transactions carefully may help them avoid unnecessary banking expenses.

Customers should also maintain the required average monthly balance, check their cheque payments before issuing them and review changes to their reward benefits.

The Axis Bank Cash Transaction Rules will not affect every savings account holder in exactly the same way. The applicable charges and benefits depend on the account category and relevant banking conditions.

Checking the revised terms before December 1 can help customers understand the changes and avoid unexpected deductions from their savings accounts.
