EPFO WhatsApp Service has made it easier for millions of provident fund subscribers to check their PF balance, view their last five transactions and download their account passbook directly through WhatsApp.

The new facility was launched by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on November 1, 2026, during EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day celebrations.

With this facility, members can access important account information without visiting an EPFO office or navigating multiple online platforms.

The service also offers personalised guidance and assistance for completing requirements related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).

The official WhatsApp number provided by EPFO is +91 8796441800. Members need to send a simple message and complete the verification process to access the available services.

What Services Does the EPFO WhatsApp Service Offer?

The new facility allows EPF subscribers to access some of their most frequently required account details through a WhatsApp conversation.

Members can use the service to check their current provident fund balance, view details of their latest five transactions and download their EPF passbook.

The facility is designed to make routine PF-related services more accessible, particularly for employees who want to check whether their employer’s contributions have been credited to their accounts.

It also provides personalised guidance for eligible members completing requirements under the PMVBRY employment scheme.

How to Check EPF Balance Through WhatsApp

Members can follow these steps to access their PF account information:

Save the official EPFO WhatsApp number +91 8796441800 in your mobile contacts.

Open WhatsApp and start a conversation with the saved number.

Send a message saying “Hi”.

Complete the verification process using the mobile number registered with your Universal Account Number (UAN).

Select the service you want from the options displayed by the chatbot.

Choose PF balance to check your account balance.

Select the transaction option to view your latest five transactions.

Choose the passbook option to access and download your account passbook.

Members can also access the service by scanning the QR code shared in EPFO’s official communication.

Who Can Use the New EPFO WhatsApp Facility?

The service is intended for EPF subscribers who want quick access to their provident fund account information. However, mobile number verification is an important requirement.

Members should use the mobile number linked to their UAN when starting the WhatsApp conversation.

If the number is not registered or linked correctly, they may face difficulties completing verification.

The facility is particularly useful for salaried employees who regularly monitor their PF contributions, change jobs or want to keep track of their retirement savings.

EPFO Also Announces Automatic Settlement of Small Inactive Accounts

Alongside the WhatsApp facility, EPFO has introduced automatic settlement of eligible inoperative provident fund accounts containing balances of up to Rs 1,000.

Under this initiative, subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inactive accounts will not need to submit individual claims.

EPFO will initiate the settlement process after completing the prescribed identity and bank account verification.

The initiative is expected to benefit approximately one lakh accounts involving around Rs 5 crore.

The eligible amounts will be transferred to the rightful beneficiaries after verification.

This is a separate initiative from the WhatsApp service, but both measures are part of EPFO’s efforts to make provident fund services more accessible.

Important Safety Tips for EPF Members

While using the EPFO WhatsApp Service, members should ensure they are communicating with the verified number shared through EPFO’s official announcements.

Do not share your UAN password, bank account password, OTP or other confidential financial information with anyone claiming to represent EPFO.

Avoid responding to unknown numbers or clicking suspicious links related to PF balance updates.

Members who cannot access the WhatsApp facility can continue using the EPFO member portal and UMANG app for available provident fund services.

The new facility is expected to simplify routine PF account checks by bringing essential information to a messaging platform that many employees already use every day.
