WhatsApp Business Charges are set to change in India from October 1, 2026, affecting companies that use the WhatsApp Business Platform to communicate with customers.
The new pricing structure introduced by Meta will change how businesses are charged for certain messages.
Small businesses, online stores and service providers commonly use WhatsApp Business for order confirmations, delivery updates, promotional messages and customer support.
WhatsApp Business Charges Start From October 1
Meta has instructed businesses and solution providers connected to its platform to add a payment method by September 30, 2026.
Accounts that do not have a payment method linked by the deadline will stop receiving service messages from October 1.
Meta has also clarified that businesses will be charged only when the relevant message is successfully delivered to the customer.
How the 24-Hour Service Window Works
The new system is linked to the 24-hour Customer Service Window. This window starts when a customer messages or calls a business through WhatsApp.
During the 24-hour period, businesses can send normal text and free-form messages without using approved templates. AI-generated replies can also be sent within this window.
Once 24 hours have passed since the customer’s last message, the free window closes. Businesses can then send messages only through approved templates for marketing, utility or authentication purposes, which may attract charges.
WhatsApp Business Charges Explained With Example
Suppose a business sends a marketing template to a customer to promote a new product. If the customer replies, a new 24-hour customer service window begins.
During this period, general messages and eligible utility messages, such as order confirmations, can be sent without a separate charge under the stated rules.
If the business sends another utility message after the 24-hour window has closed, that message can attract a separate charge.
The key point is that the timing of the customer’s interaction determines whether businesses can send certain messages within the free service window.
Will Normal WhatsApp Users Pay?
Regular WhatsApp users will not have to pay these business messaging charges. The changes apply to companies and business accounts using the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Customers can continue to use normal WhatsApp without paying these messaging charges when they contact businesses or receive replies from them. The additional messaging costs will apply to the businesses using the platform.
Businesses therefore need to ensure that their payment details are updated before September 30 to avoid service-message delivery issues from October 1.
