iOS 27.0.1 has been released by Apple with fixes for several issues affecting iPhone users, including a Face ID-related restart problem on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The update was released on September 28.
The first minor update to iOS 27 focuses on bug fixes rather than introducing major new features. Apple has addressed three specific issues in the release notes.
iOS 27.0.1 Fixes Face ID Restart Issue
The update fixes a problem in which the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could unexpectedly restart when Face ID failed to authenticate.
The issue could occur when Face ID was being used for authentication on the devices.
Apple has also fixed a camera problem affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.
Under certain lighting conditions, photos captured at 2x with an f/1.48 aperture could show a colour artefact.
Touchscreen Bug Also Fixed
Another issue addressed by iOS 27.0.1 involved the touchscreen becoming unresponsive when Notification Centre and Control Centre were opened simultaneously.
Unlike the two issues specifically listed for the iPhone 18 Pro models, this touchscreen problem relates to the iOS 27 software more broadly.
The update is available for compatible iPhone models.
How to Install iOS 27.0.1
iPhone users can check for the update by opening Settings, selecting General and then choosing Software Update. Apple lists iOS 27.0.1 as available for iPhone 11 and later models.
The update carries build number 24A446 and was released on September 28. Apple has also released iPadOS 27.0.1 for compatible iPad models.
For iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users, the iOS 27.0.1 update specifically addresses the Face ID restart and camera artefact issues.
