Truecaller Scam Checker is a new tool designed to help users check suspicious phone numbers, web links and messages before interacting with them.

The feature can provide information about potential scam activity using Truecaller’s existing detection system and community reports.

The tool is available for Android users in India, while its web version can be accessed worldwide.

Truecaller Scam Checker Explained

With Scam Checker, users can enter an unknown or suspicious phone number to investigate it.

The tool uses available scam signals and information from the Truecaller community to identify numbers that may have been reported for suspicious activity.

Users can also find scam reports shared by other people through Truecaller’s ScamFeed.

However, the absence of a scam report does not necessarily mean that a number is completely safe.

Check Links Before Opening

Scam Checker can also be used to examine suspicious links received through WhatsApp, SMS or email.

For example, users may receive a link claiming to be from a bank, delivery company, reward service, employer or government service. Instead of opening the link immediately, they can enter it into the tool to check available risk information.

The system can also examine short URLs and redirects to provide relevant risk signals.

Scan Suspicious Messages

The tool can also help users investigate suspicious messages. These may include messages asking them to make a payment, update KYC details, close an account or claim a prize.

Scam Checker can identify phone numbers or links present in a message and display available information related to potential scam activity.

Truecaller has said that the tool could receive additional capabilities in the future. The company may also introduce an option to check suspicious SMS or chats by uploading screenshots.

Stay Careful With Online Scams

Users should not rely only on a scam-checking result before taking action. A number or link with no existing report may still be risky, especially if it has not previously been reported.

Before sharing banking details, OTPs, passwords or making payments, users should independently verify the request through the concerned company’s official website or app.
