IndiGo has revised charges for several optional services on domestic flights. The updated fees cover services such as infant travel, excess baggage, priority services and travel certificates.
These changes can increase the overall cost of a trip for passengers who use additional services after booking their flights.
Infant Fee Increased by ₹1,000
The fee for travelling with an infant below two years of age has increased from ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per child per sector on domestic flights.
Under IndiGo’s standard rules, infants do not get a separate seat and must travel with an accompanying adult. Children aged between three days and two years are treated as infants, and only one infant is allowed per adult.
Parents must also carry valid proof of the child’s age, such as a birth certificate or passport.
For a family travelling with two adults and two infants, the infant charges alone would come to ₹6,000, apart from the cost of the adult tickets and other optional services.
Excess Baggage Gets Costlier
Passengers carrying baggage beyond their permitted limit will also have to pay more. The excess baggage charge has increased from ₹700 per kg to ₹800 per kg.
This means passengers exceeding their free baggage allowance will pay ₹100 more for every additional kilogram under the revised charge.
IndiGo also provides prepaid excess baggage options. The available slabs range from 3 kg to 40 kg, with the price depending on the amount of additional baggage selected.
Other Optional Charges to Check
IndiGo has also revised charges linked to services such as unaccompanied minors, priority services and travel certificates.
The information provided states that the current website lists the domestic unaccompanied minor fee at ₹4,999, while recent updates indicate a revised fee of ₹5,999. Passengers using this service should therefore check the amount shown for their booking before making payment.
Seat selection can also attract an additional charge, depending on the seat selected. Passengers using priority services or requesting travel certificates should also check the applicable fee.
Check Final Fare Before Travel
The initial flight fare shown during booking may not include all optional services. Passengers should check the final amount before completing their booking or purchasing additional services.
Families travelling with children should particularly check the infant fee and baggage allowance included with their fare. Passengers carrying extra luggage should also compare the applicable excess baggage charges before travelling.
IndiGo has not publicly given a specific reason for the revised charges. The changes cover several optional services and can affect the final cost for passengers who choose these add-ons.
