Amazon has expanded its delivery network ahead of the festive season, with plans to open 20 new fulfillment centers, six new sort centers and 150 new last-mile delivery stations across India.
The expansion is aimed at making deliveries faster during the busy shopping period.
Amazon Expands Delivery Network
The new facilities have increased Amazon’s total storage capacity in India by 50% to 64 million cubic feet. The company is also focusing on improving its reach in both large cities and smaller towns.
All six new sort centers and seven of the new fulfillment centers will be launched in non-metro cities. Raipur, Ranchi and Varanasi will be among the first locations to get Amazon fulfillment centers under the expansion.
The move is expected to help Amazon keep products closer to customers in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, potentially reducing the time required to deliver orders.
Amazon Investment for Festive Season
Amazon said it will invest more than ₹2,800 crore this year as part of the expansion. The investment will be used to strengthen its operational network, improve technology and support employee safety and well-being.
According to the company, the new centers will be operated by its strategic logistics partners. The expansion is part of Amazon’s efforts to strengthen its infrastructure ahead of increased festive-season demand.
150 New Delivery Stations in 118 Cities
Amazon has also launched 150 new last-mile delivery stations across 118 cities. The locations include Asansol, Bhatinda, Bikaner, Coimbatore, Doda, Udhampur and West Garo Hills.
Twelve cities will get Amazon delivery stations for the first time. These include Bhojpur, Bokajan, Jalaun and Jehanabad, further expanding the company’s reach into smaller cities and towns.
Faster Delivery Options for Customers
According to Amazon, same-day delivery has expanded to 30% more cities over the past year.
The new facilities will allow sellers to keep products closer to customers, helping reduce the time between placing an order and receiving the delivery.
The company said customers will have several delivery options based on their requirements. These include Amazon Now deliveries within minutes, delivery within hours, same-day delivery and next-day delivery.
Amazon has also introduced its Samman programme for delivery network employees and delivery partners.
The programme includes support such as scholarships for children’s education, access to government schemes, insurance, financial assistance and road safety initiatives.
