PhonePe Visa payment services have expanded with the launch of Cross Border Scan to Pay for international transactions.

PhonePe has become the first Indian payments app to support this facility, allowing eligible users to make payments abroad by scanning supported Visa QR codes.

PhonePe and Visa announced the partnership at the Global Fintech Fest 2026. The companies aim to make cardless payments more convenient for millions of Indian users travelling or making payments internationally.

PhonePe Visa Payment Services Get New Features

PhonePe now supports three major Visa payment services, including online device tokenisation, Tap to Pay and Cross Border Scan to Pay. Users can add their Visa card to the app and use supported payment features without carrying the physical card.

Once a Visa card is saved in PhonePe, users can use it for supported transactions at stores, online merchants and eligible QR-code payments while travelling abroad.

The Cross Border Scan to Pay facility is designed for international transactions. Users can scan Visa-supported QR codes in participating countries and make payments through PhonePe.

The service is available across 14 countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Japan, China and South Korea.

How Cross-Border Scan to Pay Works

For international QR payments, users can scan a supported Visa QR code using PhonePe and complete the transaction through their saved Visa card.

This can make payments more convenient for Indian travellers, as they can use their phone instead of carrying a physical card for supported transactions.

The partnership between PhonePe and Visa is focused on making card-based payments more accessible through digital and cardless experiences.

Tap to Pay and Smart Accept

PhonePe also supports Tap to Pay for Android users. With this feature, users can make contactless payments by tapping their compatible smartphone on a point-of-sale machine.

Another feature is Smart Accept, which is aimed at small merchants. It allows merchants to accept payments directly on their smartphones without requiring a separate POS machine.

Together, these services bring different Visa payment options into the PhonePe platform.

Users can therefore access online, contactless and supported international payment facilities through the app after adding their eligible Visa card.

What Users Should Know

While the new features can reduce the need to carry a physical card, availability depends on supported cards, merchants, QR codes and countries.

Users travelling abroad should also check applicable payment, currency conversion and card-related charges before making international transactions.

The new Visa payment services give PhonePe users more ways to use their cards through their smartphones, including supported international QR payments and contactless transactions.
