Millions of State Bank of India (SBI) customers should take note of an important UPI update.
The bank has announced that its UPI services will remain temporarily unavailable on September 4, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance.
Customers who regularly use UPI for shopping, bills, food, travel or other daily payments may face problems during this period. Therefore, SBI customers should keep an alternative payment option ready.
SBI UPI Services to Stop for 45 Minutes
SBI has informed customers that UPI services will be unavailable for 45 minutes on September 4.
The maintenance is scheduled from 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM IST.
The bank said this is part of routine maintenance and the work could be completed earlier than expected.
During this period, customers may face difficulty making UPI payments from their SBI accounts through apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and YONO.
The disruption is temporary, and normal UPI services are expected to resume once the maintenance work is completed.
UPI Lite Can Be Used During Downtime
SBI has advised customers to use UPI Lite for small payments during the maintenance period.
UPI Lite allows users to make small-value transactions without entering a UPI PIN every time. Customers can make transactions of up to ₹1,000 using UPI Lite, while the maximum wallet balance can be ₹5,000.
This can be useful for small everyday payments if regular UPI transactions from an SBI account are temporarily unavailable.
What Are SBI’s Daily UPI Limits?
SBI customers can make a maximum of 20 person-to-person (P2P) UPI transactions in a day.
The general daily UPI transaction limit is up to ₹1 lakh.
However, higher limits are available for certain types of payments. Transactions related to insurance and capital markets can go up to ₹2 lakh.
For IPOs, tax payments, hospitals and educational institutions, the transaction limit can go up to ₹5 lakh.
What Should SBI Customers Do?
Customers who need to make an important payment should avoid depending on regular SBI UPI services between 12:15 AM and 1:00 AM on September 4.
They can use UPI Lite for eligible small payments or keep other payment options ready during the 45-minute maintenance window.
Regular UPI services should become available again after the scheduled maintenance is completed.
