The Central Government has launched a new real-time digital portal to make India’s organ transplant system faster, more transparent, and easier to access.
Developed by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the platform brings hospitals, patients, and transplant authorities onto a single digital system.
It will help track organ availability in real time and ensure organs are allocated more fairly across the country.
National Waiting List to Speed Up Organ Allocation
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of a single national waiting list for patients waiting for organ transplants.
Earlier, most patients were registered through separate state-level systems, making coordination between states difficult.
The new portal allows authorised hospitals to access real-time information, helping organs reach eligible patients faster.
The system is expected to reduce delays and make the allocation process more transparent and fair.
Aadhaar-Linked Organ Donation Registration
The new portal also allows people to pledge organ donation using their Aadhaar.
Linking organ donation with Aadhaar will help:
Reduce duplicate registrations.
Improve the accuracy of donor records.
Make the verification process faster.
Increase transparency in organ donation.
The government hopes this will encourage more people to register as organ donors.
Hospitals Will Update Records in Real Time
Hospitals performing organ transplants can now upload donor and recipient details directly to the portal.
This will create a single national database containing information on:
Donor registrations
Recipient registrations
National waiting lists
Organ allocation
Completed transplant procedures
A unified system will improve coordination between hospitals and reduce paperwork.
