Central Government Bonus 2026 has been approved for eligible employees for the financial year 2025-26, with the maximum payment set at ₹6,908 for 30 days.

The announcement comes ahead of Diwali, but the benefit will not cover every central government employee.

The Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance issued an office memorandum on October 15, 2026, communicating the approval of the non-productivity-linked, or ad-hoc, bonus.

The amount depends on the employee’s average monthly salary and the applicable calculation limit.

For employees who qualify, the bonus provides an additional payment before the festive season.

However, their employment category, service period and coverage under other bonus schemes will determine whether they receive the benefit.

Central Government Bonus 2026: Who Is Eligible?

The bonus primarily covers Group C employees and non-gazetted Group B employees who are not covered by any Productivity Linked Bonus scheme.

Eligible personnel in the Central Armed Police Forces and the Armed Forces are also covered under the applicable provisions.

Certain employees of Union Territory administrations can also qualify if they follow the Central Government’s salary structure and are not covered by another bonus or ex-gratia scheme.

The benefit is not available to all ranks. Group A officers and Group B gazetted employees are outside the coverage described in the announcement.

Employees already covered by a Productivity Linked Bonus scheme are also excluded from this particular payment.

Therefore, employees should check their service category and applicable bonus rules rather than assume that the announcement applies to everyone working for the Central Government.

How Is the ₹6,908 Bonus Calculated?

The maximum bonus is calculated using a monthly salary ceiling of ₹7,000, even if an employee’s actual average monthly salary is higher.

For a full 30-day bonus, the calculation is ₹7,000 multiplied by 30 and divided by 30.4.

This produces approximately ₹6,907.89, which is rounded to ₹6,908.

Employees whose average monthly salary is below ₹7,000 will receive a lower amount based on the applicable calculation.

The ₹6,908 figure is therefore the maximum payment under this calculation, not a guaranteed amount for every employee. The final benefit depends on the employee’s qualifying salary and period of service.

This distinction is important for workers trying to estimate how much they may receive before Diwali.

The approved bonus provides for 30 days of emoluments, subject to the prescribed ceiling and eligibility conditions.

Minimum Service Required for the Bonus

Employees generally need to have completed at least six months of continuous service during the financial year 2025-26 to qualify.

Under the normal eligibility condition, they must also have been in service on March 31, 2026.
Those who completed at least six months but less than a full year of qualifying service may receive the bonus on a pro-rata basis.

This means their payment will be calculated according to their eligible service period rather than automatically granting the full ₹6,908.

Employees should verify their service records and the applicable provisions before estimating their payment.

Meeting the minimum service requirement alone does not guarantee the maximum amount, as the employee must also fall within the covered categories.

What Employees Should Check Before Payment

The most important factors are the employee’s group, whether the post is gazetted or non-gazetted, the duration of qualifying service and whether another productivity-linked bonus scheme applies.

Eligible employees should follow official communications issued by their respective ministries or departments for payment-related information.

The approval establishes the applicable bonus framework, while individual eligibility and calculation determine the amount payable.

For central government workers planning their festive expenses, understanding these conditions can help avoid confusion over the difference between the maximum announced amount and the actual bonus they may receive.
