Buying an electric vehicle in Meghalaya is now more rewarding. The state government has approved the new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2026, offering financial incentives
and a complete waiver of registration fees to encourage more people to switch to electric mobility.
The decision was approved by the Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday as part of its efforts to promote clean transportation and reduce pollution.
₹25,000 Incentive for EV Buyers
Under the new EV Policy, every eligible buyer of an electric vehicle will receive a ₹25,000 incentive. Along with this, the government has waived registration fees completely, making EV ownership more affordable.
The benefits are not limited to electric cars. People buying electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers will also receive incentives and full registration fee exemption.
Senior state minister Marcus Marak said the state already has more than 5,000 electric vehicles. The new policy is expected to increase EV adoption significantly in the coming years.
Cabinet Approves More Power Sector Projects
Apart from the EV policy, the Meghalaya Cabinet also cleared several proposals to strengthen the state’s power sector.
These include the appointment of a Chief Technical Advisor for power generation and approval of ₹22.37 crore as land compensation for a major electricity transmission line project.
Delhi Already Offering Bigger EV Benefits
Meghalaya’s announcement comes after Delhi introduced its new EV policy on July 1.
Under the Delhi policy, buyers can get subsidies of up to ₹30,000 for electric two-wheelers, up to ₹50,000 for electric three-wheelers, and up to ₹1 lakh for electric trucks.
The Delhi government is also providing a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for eligible electric vehicles priced up to ₹30 lakh, making EVs even more affordable for buyers.
