People who travel through the same toll plaza every day have something to celebrate.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started linking daily commuters’ FastTags with digital toll passes, making travel quicker and more convenient.
The initiative, launched under the guidance of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has now started in Lucknow and nearby areas.
FastTag Will Replace Physical Toll Passes
Under the new system, daily commuters will no longer need to show their toll pass every time they cross a nearby toll plaza.
Instead, their annual or daily local pass will be linked directly to their vehicle’s FastTag through the Highway Yatra app.
Once linked, toll plaza scanners will automatically verify the pass, allowing vehicles to pass without any paperwork or manual verification.
The work has already begun at toll plazas on the Lucknow–Rae Bareli, Lucknow–Sitapur, and Lucknow–Kanpur routes.
Authorities are also informing local residents about the new facility so they can start using it.
How to Link Your FastTag with the Highway Yatra App
The process of linking your FastTag is simple and can be completed online.
First, download the Highway Yatra app from the Google Play Store and sign in using your mobile number.
On the home screen, select the option for a Local Pass or Digital Local Pass.
Next, enter your vehicle registration number and verify your FastTag details and address.
After completing the online payment, your digital pass will be linked to your FastTag.
Once the process is complete, you won’t have to carry or show any physical toll pass while crossing eligible toll plazas.
Who Can Use This Facility?
According to NHAI Project Director Nakul Prakash Verma, the digital local pass facility is available to people living within a 20-kilometre radius of a toll plaza.
The earlier daily pass system has now been replaced with digital local passes linked to FastTags.
Toll plaza scanners will automatically detect the linked pass, making the journey faster and reducing waiting time at toll booths.
This new system is expected to make daily travel smoother for thousands of commuters while also reducing congestion and paperwork at toll plazas.
