Yamaha has launched its first flex fuel motorcycle in the Indian market, called the Yamaha FZ Blue Flex.

The bike can run on ethanol-blended petrol from E20 to E85. It is priced at ₹1.24 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in Metallic Black.

There are no changes to the engine compared to the standard model. Before Yamaha, Suzuki introduced the flex fuel version of the Gixxer SF 250, while Hero MotoCorp launched flex fuel versions of the Splendor and HF Deluxe.

149cc Engine with Flex Fuel Technology

The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex uses the same 149cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine as the standard FZ. However, it has been modified to run on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85.

The engine produces 11.7 hp of power at 7,250 rpm and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Compared to the standard FZ, it delivers 0.7 hp less power and 0.5 Nm less torque.

This is common in flex fuel engines because ethanol has a slightly lower energy density than regular petrol.

Design Remains Mostly the Same

The overall design of the Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is almost identical to the current FZ model.

It gets the same LED headlight that was introduced with the FZ Rave last year. The fuel tank, faux air vents, and single-piece seat remain unchanged.

The bike also continues to feature a 5-speed gearbox, telescopic front forks, rear monoshock suspension, and single-channel ABS.

One major difference is the ground clearance, which is 135 mm, compared to 165 mm on the other FZ variants. The bike has a kerb weight of 139 kg, making it 3 kg heavier than the FZ Rave.

Price and Availability

The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is available only in Metallic Black. It is priced at ₹1.24 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in the middle of the price range among the nine models in Yamaha’s FZ lineup.

Initially, the motorcycle will be sold through Yamaha’s Blue Square premium dealerships in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.
