Uber has rolled out several new safety features in India to make rides safer for both drivers and passengers.

One of the biggest updates allows drivers to record video during a trip if they feel unsafe.

The company says the new features are designed to improve safety while protecting the privacy of everyone using the platform.

Drivers Can Record Trips if They Feel Unsafe

Under the new feature, drivers can record video during a ride and store it securely on their mobile phones.

However, the recordings will be encrypted, meaning neither the driver nor Uber can view them immediately.

The video can only be accessed if the driver chooses to submit it as evidence while reporting a safety-related incident.

According to Uber, this ensures that the feature is used only when needed and helps protect user privacy.

The company also said that if no safety report is filed, the recording will be automatically deleted after seven days.

Riders Will Be Informed Before the Trip

Uber says passengers will be notified if a ride has the recording feature enabled.

After receiving the notification, riders can decide whether they want to continue with the trip or choose another option.

The company has clarified that the recordings are not meant for routine monitoring and will only be used if they are voluntarily submitted as part of a safety complaint.

Ambulance Support Now Available Through Uber

Uber has also partnered with Dial 4242, a medical logistics provider, to offer quicker emergency assistance.

If an accident occurs during a trip, both riders and drivers will be able to request an ambulance directly through Uber’s existing 24×7 Safety Line.

The feature is expected to reduce response time during medical emergencies.

More Safety Features for Riders and Drivers

Along with video recording and emergency assistance, Uber has announced two more updates.

Drivers will no longer be able to manually type messages while the vehicle is moving.

The app will encourage them to stop safely before replying, helping reduce distractions while driving.

Uber has also introduced a new option that allows riders to create their own ride PIN, adding an extra layer of security before a trip begins.

With these new features, the company aims to make its platform safer while balancing security with user privacy.
