There is important news for millions of taxpayers across India.

The Income Tax Department has activated online filing for the ITR-3 form on its e-filing portal for Assessment Year 2026-27. Along with this, the Excel utility for ITR-3 has also been made available.

The department shared this update through its official X account. With the new facility now live, eligible taxpayers can start preparing and filing their income tax returns without waiting any longer.

Who Needs to File ITR-3?

The ITR-3 form is meant for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who earn income from a business or profession.

This means that if you run a business, work as a freelancer, consultant, doctor, lawyer, architect, or earn income through any professional services, you will need to file your return using ITR-3 for AY 2026-27.

Choosing the correct form is important to ensure smooth and accurate filing of your tax return.

Excel Utility Released for Offline Filing

The Income Tax Department has also released the Excel-based utility for ITR-3 on the e-filing portal.

Taxpayers can download the utility, prepare their tax details offline, and then upload the completed return directly to the portal.

The utility has been released as Version 1.0, with the release date recorded as June 18, 2026.

The department has also updated the related JSON schema and validation details on the same date.

This feature is expected to make return preparation easier, especially for business owners and professionals handling detailed financial information.

Filing Online Has Become Easier

Taxpayers who prefer filing their returns directly online can now easily select the required form on the e-filing portal.

The portal provides a drop-down menu that displays available forms, including ITR-1, ITR-2, and ITR-3.

Users simply need to choose the form that matches their income category and continue with the filing process.

With ITR-3 now fully activated, professionals and business taxpayers can begin their return filing process early and avoid last-minute hassles.

The latest update is expected to make filing more convenient while helping taxpayers submit their returns on time.
