In a major relief for Post Office Savings Account holders, the Department of Posts has launched a new facility called Personalized Cheque Books (PCB).

The new service came into effect from May 8, 2026, and aims to make post office banking more modern, secure, and customer-friendly.

Until now, cheque books issued by post offices did not include personal details of customers.

But with this new system, account holders can now get cheque books with their information already printed on them, similar to private and public sector banks.

What Is New in the Personalized Cheque Book?

The biggest change is that the new cheque books will come with pre-printed customer details.

These details will include:

Account holder’s name

Post Office Savings Account number

Department of Posts IFSC code

According to the Department of Posts, this move has been introduced to improve convenience, increase security, and bring post office banking services closer to modern banking standards.

The new cheque books are expected to reduce errors and make transactions safer for customers.

How Can Customers Apply?

In the initial phase, customers will need to visit their nearest post office branch to apply for a personalized cheque book.

The Department has also announced that this service will soon be available through:

Internet Banking

Mobile Banking

This means customers may later be able to request cheque books online without visiting the branch.

Instant Cheque Books Will Still Continue

The Department of Posts has clarified that the old instant cheque book facility will not be discontinued.

Customers can now choose between two options:

Instant Cheque Book

Issued immediately at the post office counter

Does not contain pre-printed customer details

Personalized Cheque Book

Comes with pre-printed personal details

Delivered to the registered address

Available free of cost

Customers are free to choose whichever option suits them better.

Free Delivery But Address Must Be Updated

One major benefit is that the personalized cheque book will be delivered free of cost to customers.

However, delivery will be made to the address registered in post office records.

Customers are advised to check and update their address details to avoid delays or failed delivery.

Department Issues New Guidelines

The Department of Posts has also released:

A revised cheque book request form

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for processing and delivery

All postal circles across the country have been directed to promote the new facility and display related information at post office branches.

The move is being seen as another step toward improving digital and banking services offered by India Post.
