Relations between India and Bangladesh are showing signs of improvement after a period of tension. One of the biggest developments is the resumption of visa services, making travel easier again for citizens of both countries.
Bangladesh has restarted visa services for Indians across all categories. Visa centers are now fully operational in multiple cities, and thousands of visas have already been issued since late February. This step signals a positive shift in bilateral ties.
Bangladesh Resumes Full Visa Services
The Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, along with consular offices in cities like Kolkata, Agartala, Mumbai, and Chennai, has collectively issued more than 13,000 visas to Indian citizens since February 20.
According to The Indian Express, visa services that were temporarily halted in December have now been fully restored.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah confirmed that the suspension was short-term and services resumed in February.
India Likely to Resume Services Soon
India is also expected to ease its visa process for Bangladeshi citizens in the coming weeks. While services were not completely stopped, strict checks and limitations were introduced after security concerns in late 2025.
Reports suggest that with Dinesh Trivedi set to take charge as the new High Commissioner, a full resumption of visa services could happen soon.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has formally requested India to normalize visa issuance. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman highlighted the strong historical
and cultural ties between the two nations and expressed hope for further positive developments.
Political Changes Bring Positive Momentum
Relations between the two countries had worsened during the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. However, the situation has improved after Tarique Rahman took office as Prime Minister.
India showed support by sending key representatives like Vikram Misri and Om Birla to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
In addition, recent meetings between officials from both countries have focused on resolving key issues, including visa policies. These developments indicate a steady return to normalcy in India-Bangladesh relations.
