If you’ve been dreaming of visiting Lakshadweep, there’s great news. Traveling to this beautiful island destination has now become much easier.

The administration has updated the entry rules, removing several hurdles that earlier made the process complicated.

These new changes are designed to make tourism smoother while still maintaining safety and environmental balance.

Easier Entry Rules for Tourists

The Lakshadweep administration introduced major changes on April 29, 2026, making travel more convenient.

One of the biggest changes is that tourists no longer need a local sponsor. Earlier, visitors had to rely on someone from Lakshadweep to support their application, which was often difficult.

Now, you can apply independently without any local help.

Another major relief is the removal of the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). Previously, getting PCC from your state could take time and delay travel plans. Now, instead of that, Lakshadweep Police will handle security checks after you apply.

Important Rules You Still Need to Follow

Even though the process is easier, a few important rules remain:

You must apply at least 14 days before your travel date

You need to clearly mention which islands you plan to visit

You will only be allowed to visit the islands listed in your permit

Transit and Travel Guidelines

There are also some travel-related rules you should keep in mind:

Transit is allowed only through Kavaratti and Agatti

Maximum transit time is 12 hours

It is advised to book flight tickets only after your permit is approved

Simple Online Application Process

The entire permit process is now fully online, making it quick and convenient.

Here’s what you need to do:

Fill in your personal details

Upload ID proof such as Aadhaar card or passport

Submit your photo and travel plan

The permit fee is quite affordable. In addition, a small green tax is charged, which is used to protect the environment of the islands.

Once approved, your permit will generally be valid for 30 days, giving you enough time to explore this peaceful and scenic destination without stress.
