If you own a Xiaomi smartphone, especially from the Xiaomi 12 series, this news is important. Xiaomi has officially ended software support for the Xiaomi 12 series.
While Xiaomi usually provides strong software updates for its devices, even popular models eventually reach their end of life (EOL).
This means the Xiaomi 12 series will no longer receive HyperOS updates, security patches, or new features.
The affected devices are:
Xiaomi 12 – Last update: HyperOS 3.0, Android 15
Xiaomi 12 Pro – Last update: HyperOS 3.0, Android 15
Xiaomi 12 Lite – Last update: HyperOS 1.0, Android 14
All three phones originally launched with Android 12. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, as premium models, received an extra OS upgrade compared to the Xiaomi 12 Lite. This is why they retire on Android 15, while the Lite model stops at Android 14.
Alongside the Xiaomi 12 series, the Redmi Note 12 5G has also reached EOL. It launched with Android 12 and, after two OS upgrades, now runs Android 14 with HyperOS 2.0.
What This Means for Users
If your Xiaomi device is on this list, it’s recommended to consider upgrading to newer hardware. Newer devices offer the latest HyperOS features and regular security updates, protecting you from new vulnerabilities.
However, your existing Xiaomi 12 or Redmi Note 12 5G will still work. It just won’t receive updates, leaving it exposed to potential security risks.
To help users, Xiaomi has shared a list of devices that receive six years of software support, including security updates:
Xiaomi 15
Xiaomi 15 Ultra
Xiaomi Pad 7
Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro
Poco F7
Poco F7 Pro
Poco F7 Ultra
Redmi Note 14 (4G)
These devices will continue to get security updates for six years. While these updates won’t add new features or visual changes, they ensure protection from emerging security threats.
