Your pocket may feel the pressure in April. Over the past few days, prices of smartphones and laptops have already been increasing, and now other electronic items may also become costlier.
Reports suggest that prices of refrigerators, air conditioners (ACs), and smart TVs are likely to go up from April. This means that even buying products that help you stay cool during summer could become more expensive.
The main reasons behind this price rise are higher raw material costs and increased transportation expenses. These rising costs for companies are now expected to be passed on to customers.
Expected Price Increase in Electronics
According to reports, refrigerators, ACs, and smart TVs may see a price hike of around 5–6 percent. One of the key reasons is the shortage of memory chips, which has already impacted the prices of smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs.
At the same time, the cost of materials like plastics, resins, and polymers—used in making refrigerators and ACs—has also gone up recently. This increase in production costs is likely to push prices higher for these appliances.
Why Smart TVs and Laptops Are Getting Costlier
Smart TVs depend heavily on memory chips, so any shortage directly affects their pricing. In addition, LCD panels have become more expensive due to limited supply, forcing companies to pay more.
As a result, smart TV prices are expected to rise, especially for popular sizes like 32-inch, 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch models.
Laptops may become even more expensive, with prices expected to rise by up to 35 percent this year. This is mainly due to higher costs of processors, GPUs, and memory components.
Experts also point to rising RAM prices and a shortage of entry-level Intel processors as major reasons. Because of this, laptops that earlier cost around ₹30,000–₹35,000 are now nearing ₹45,000.
