The Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj is introducing a new initiative called Pancham Chatbot.
Designed to strengthen panchayats, this digital tool will provide elected representatives, officials, and citizens with information on panchayat services, schemes, and statistics.
The chatbot is WhatsApp-based, making it easy for anyone to use without installing a new app.
This move marks a step forward in using technology to modernize village administration and improve access to government services.
What Makes Pancham Special?
Launched on January 25, Pancham is designed as a digital companion for panchayats.
It will assist officials with daily administrative tasks and provide guidance and essential information.
For the first time, the central government will have a direct digital connection with over 3 million elected panchayat representatives and officials across India.
This makes Pancham a unique tool for empowering local governance and improving communication between the government and villages.
Easy Access Through WhatsApp
One of the biggest advantages of Pancham is that it works through WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging app in India.
Panchayat representatives won’t need to learn a new app or software—they can access information just like chatting with someone on WhatsApp.
This approach makes it simple, fast, and convenient for officials to get the help they need without any technical hurdles.
How Pancham Will Be Useful
Pancham uses the mobile numbers of active panchayat officials and elected representatives registered with e-Gram Swaraj. It provides information on:
e-Gram Swaraj
LGD (Local Government Directory)
GPDP (Gram Panchayat Development Plan)
Major government schemes and initiatives
Currently, Pancham does not function like modern AI chatbots and provides pre-set, verified information.
However, the data will be updated regularly to keep it relevant.
Citizens can also use Pancham to access information about panchayat services, certificates, government schemes, and other important works, making governance more transparent and accessible.
