As we approach the New Year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather update.
Between December 28 and 31, many parts of the country will experience heavy rainfall, snowfall, and extreme cold.
A new Western Disturbance is set to bring snow to the hills and intensify the cold wave in the plains.
The IMD has warned that these weather conditions could continue for the next four days, so people are advised to stay cautious.
Heavy Rain in Southern States
Southern India will end the year on a rainy note.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to see heavy rainfall from December 28 to 31.
In Kerala, strong winds and lightning are likely, especially in coastal areas.
Tamil Nadu and nearby regions will experience intermittent rain due to cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal.
Residents are advised to take precautions during this period.
Snowfall in the North and Severe Cold in Rajasthan
North India will see snowfall in the hilly states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir between December 29 and 31.
This will make the plains even colder.
Rajasthan has been placed under a yellow alert for severe cold and cold waves.
Temperatures in northern regions like Sikar, Churu, and Jhunjhunu could drop close to freezing.
Dense fog in the mornings may reduce visibility, so drivers need to be careful.
Weather in Andaman & Nicobar
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching up to 40 km/hr until December 30.
Islanders are advised to stay alert during this period.
