Microsoft upgrades copilot with voice commands

With support for Windows 10 officially ending, Microsoft is putting all its energy into improving Windows 11 — and it’s doing that by bringing in more artificial intelligence.

The company has announced a major upgrade for its built-in Copilot assistant, making it smarter, faster, and more interactive than ever.

“Hey Copilot”: Talk to Your PC Hands-Free

Microsoft has introduced voice wake-up for Copilot, which means you can now summon your AI assistant just by saying “Hey Copilot.”

Once you turn on this feature in settings, a small microphone icon and a soft chime will appear whenever Copilot starts listening.

From there, you can ask it questions, control system settings, open apps, or perform quick tasks — all without touching your keyboard.

And when you’re done, simply say “Goodbye” to end the chat.

It’s designed to work much like Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant, but built right into your Windows 11 PC.

Copilot Now Sees What’s on Your Screen

Voice isn’t the only big upgrade.

Microsoft has also given Copilot “vision”, meaning it can now understand and interact with whatever’s on your screen.

Working on a PowerPoint presentation or Excel sheet? Copilot can analyse your work, suggest improvements, explain formatting, or even show you how to perform a task instead of just telling you.

The visual abilities don’t stop there — Copilot’s new “eyes” also extend to photos, games, and even travel plans, helping users complete tasks faster without switching between multiple apps or windows.

Easier Access Right from Your Taskbar

To make things smoother, Microsoft has added a new “Ask Copilot” button to the Windows 11 taskbar.

This gives users one-click access to all of Copilot’s new voice and vision tools.

Microsoft has also clarified that these upgrades rely on existing Windows APIs, meaning Copilot can search your apps and files but won’t access personal or private data.

The Bottom Line

With these updates, Windows 11’s Copilot is turning into a true digital partner — one that listens, sees, and helps you get things done faster.

For those planning to move on from Windows 10, these AI-powered tools might just make the upgrade worth it.
