WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app in the world, with millions of daily users in India. Recently, it has faced some competition from Indian apps like Arattai.
Despite this, WhatsApp continues to stay ahead by introducing new features for its users. One upcoming feature will enhance privacy, allowing you to chat without sharing your
mobile number.
Chat Using Username Instead of Mobile Number
Currently, WhatsApp requires a mobile number to start a conversation. But according to WABetaInfo, the app is testing a new feature that lets users connect using usernames.
This means you won’t have to share your phone number, keeping your personal information safer.
To make this secure, WhatsApp is also testing a four-digit “Username Key.” Users will share this code along with their username, ensuring that strangers cannot message you just by searching for your username.
Reserve Your Unique Username
WhatsApp is also testing a feature that allows users to reserve their preferred usernames. This prevents someone else from using your name or any unique identity you want.
Currently, this feature is available to select users in the WhatsApp Beta program. Later, it may roll out to all users, giving everyone a chance to pick their unique username.
When Will the Feature Be Available?
WhatsApp has not yet announced a global release date for the username feature. However, it is expected to be available to all users after beta testing is complete.
Other New Features on WhatsApp
In addition to the username feature, WhatsApp has introduced AI-based features and call scheduling.
These updates help users organize professional meetings, group calls, and improve the overall chat experience.
This new update will make chatting easier while enhancing your digital privacy. It will be interesting to see when the username feature officially launches and how users respond to it.
