Elon Musk’s social media platform X, earlier known as Twitter, has slashed its premium subscription prices in India by 47%.
This major price cut applies to all three subscription tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium+. The move is expected to expand X’s reach and grow its user base in one of the world’s largest internet markets.
This is the first significant pricing change since Twitter Blue launched in India in February 2023.
Interestingly, while the Premium+ plan saw two price hikes last year, this is the first time that prices for all tiers have been reduced.

Background and Strategy Shift
This price reduction comes shortly after Musk’s AI company xAI launched its new AI model, Grok 4. In March, xAI acquired X in a $33 billion stock deal.
Despite Musk’s efforts to boost subscription revenue, mobile app earnings reached only $16.5 million by December 2024.
In a related development, X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino stepped down this month after serving for two years.
The company is now focusing on growing its subscription revenue to reduce reliance on advertising.
