Bank Holiday Update: Banks will remain closed for three consecutive days in several Indian states.
Amid reports of conflict between India and Pakistan, people are wondering whether banks will operate normally.
However, the closure is not due to the war but because of scheduled holidays. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly.
Banks to Remain Closed for 3 Days in Kolkata
In West Bengal, banks will be closed from May 9 to May 11, 2025.
This three-day weekend includes a public holiday, a scheduled bank holiday, and a weekly off. No banking services will be available at branches during this time.
Reason for the 3-Day Bank Holiday:
May 9 (Friday): Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
This day marks the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate and famous Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.
On this occasion, banks, government offices, and private institutions in West Bengal remain closed. Cultural events like music and poetry are held across the state.
May 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday
As per RBI regulations, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month nationwide.
So, banks in Bengal and other parts of the country will be shut on May 10.
May 11 (Sunday): Weekly Holiday
Like every Sunday, banks across India will remain closed on May 11 as part of the weekly holiday schedule.
May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima
Banks in many states will remain closed on May 12 for Buddha Purnima, a major festival celebrated in honor of Lord Gautam Buddha.
This day marks his birth, enlightenment, and death. It is observed with peace and devotion in many countries including India.
Online and Digital Services to Remain Available
Even though bank branches will be closed, all digital services will continue without any disruption:
Net Banking: Check balance, view statements, transfer funds
Mobile Banking Apps: Use UPI, IMPS, pay bills
ATM Services: Withdraw and deposit cash
UPI Apps: Make payments via Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.
