Apple has introduced a new feature to its Find My network, making it easier to locate and recover lost items.
Additionally, you can now share the location of your AirTag or Find My Network device with companies like airlines.
This feature is available in the beta version of iOS 18.2 and will soon be available as a free update for iPhone Xs and later models.
How will this feature work?
You can share the location of any item from the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Simply send a link to someone, and they can click on it to view the item’s location on a map. The map will update automatically, showing when the location was last updated.
Over 15 airlines will use this feature
When you locate your item, the location will automatically turn off. You can also turn off the location at any time, even while tracking.
The person you share the location with will need to verify their identity through their Apple account or airline email.
Reports suggest that, in the coming months, over 15 airlines worldwide will use Apple’s “Find My” feature to track lost or delayed luggage.
This feature is also available on Android devices
This network uses the power of over a billion Android devices worldwide to help users locate lost items or determine their location.
Google’s Find My Device network operates similarly to Apple’s Find My network.
Both features work as crowdsourced networks, relying on billions of Android devices with online tracking support.
This means that even if your lost Android smartphone or tablet is offline, you can still track its location and ring it.
