Bengaluru :
Inflation is affecting the common man. Following the Karnataka government’s increase in petrol and diesel prices, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has decided to raise the price of milk by Rs 2 per liter.
KMF President Bhima Naik announced this at a press conference in Bengaluru on Tuesday (June 25).
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has stated that Nandini milk prices will increase by Rs 2 per litre starting Wednesday, June 26.
KMF also mentioned that both 500ml and 1000ml packets will now include an extra 50ml of milk at the new rates.
This marks the second price hike for milk in less than a year in Karnataka. KMF had previously raised Nandini milk prices by Rs 3 per litre in July 2023.
Following this hike, double toned milk will be the most affordable among Nandini variants, priced at Rs 44 for 1050 ml.
According to a statement from the Karnataka Milk Federation, each packet’s price is rising by Rs 2.
Additionally, consumers will receive an extra 50 ml of milk in every half-litre (500ml) and one-litre (1000ml) packet.
Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) President Bhima Naik mentioned that Nandini will include an extra 50 ml of milk in each packet, with the additional cost reflecting the increased supply.
Why did you increase the price?
According to KMF’s statement, Karnataka ranks second in milk production in India and is the top producer in South India.
The statement mentioned that they are close to reaching a daily production of 1 crore litres.
About 27 lakh farmers supply milk to KMF, and the federation is committed to the welfare of farmers and consumers.
The statement also highlighted that despite rate hikes, milk prices in Karnataka remain significantly lower than those in other states.
For instance, Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation prices a litre of milk at Rs 52, while Amul in Gujarat charges around Rs 56 per litre of milk.
At present, the cost of regular Nandini toned milk (blue packet) stands at Rs 42 per litre, set to rise to Rs 44.
The price has been revised twice within a year and three times in the past 18 months.
In November 2022, KMF raised milk prices by Rs 3, and in July 2023, prices were increased by another Rs 3.
