WhatsApp Users to Pay for Google Drive Chat Backups in 2024

In a significant shift, WhatsApp users are set to face a change in their chat backup routine as Google Drive storage is no longer free for WhatsApp chat backups.

As of the first half of 2024, WhatsApp chat backups will start counting towards the Google Drive storage limit, affecting users who have been relying on the complimentary 15 GB storage provided by Google Drive.

Users may need to consider opting for additional storage through Google One to accommodate their special photos, videos, and chat backups.

Subscription Plans for Google One and Google Drive:

Google One offers three primary subscription plans on both monthly and yearly bases:

  1. Basic (100GB): Monthly – £1.59 / $1.99, Yearly – £15.99 / $19.99
  2. Standard (200GB): Monthly – £2.49 / $2.99, Yearly – £24.99 / $29.99
  3. Premium (2TB): Monthly – £7.99 / $9.99, Yearly – £79.99 / $99.99

While the prices have not been announced in India, these plans provide users with varying storage capacities based on their needs.

Upcoming Feature:

In addition to the payment changes, WhatsApp is rumored to be working on a new feature that will enable users to connect with each other without revealing their phone numbers.

Although specific details regarding the release date are yet to be confirmed, there is anticipation that this feature may debut in the market later this year.

Stay tuned for updates on this innovative addition to WhatsApp’s functionality.
