People planning to buy a CNG hatchback now have a new option to consider. Tata Motors has launched the automatic AMT version of the popular Tata Altroz iCNG.

The company has introduced this new model in five variants — Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S, and Accomplished S.

The starting ex-showroom price in Delhi is ₹8.69 lakh, while the top-end Accomplished S variant costs ₹10.77 lakh.

With this launch, Tata is aiming to attract buyers who want the fuel savings of CNG along with the convenience of automatic driving.

Engine Performance and Transmission

The new Altroz iCNG uses the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine seen in the regular petrol version. However, this model comes with a factory-fitted twin-cylinder CNG setup.

In CNG mode, the engine produces 73.5 hp power and 103 Nm torque. When running on petrol, it generates 88 hp power and 115 Nm torque. Tata has paired the engine with a 5-speed AMT gearbox, which is already available in the petrol Altroz.

This new automatic option is expected to make city driving more comfortable, especially in heavy traffic conditions.

Premium Features Even in CNG Variant

One drawback of the CNG version is reduced boot space. While the petrol and diesel versions offer 345 litres of luggage capacity, the Altroz iCNG provides 210 litres because of the twin-cylinder setup.

However, Tata has tried to balance this by offering many premium features even in the CNG model.

Unlike rivals such as the Toyota Glanza and Maruti Baleno, which offer CNG only in lower variants, Tata is providing the CNG AMT option in higher trims as well.

Top variants of the Altroz iCNG come with features like LED headlights and taillights, electric sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital driver display, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Tata Also Preparing Updated Tiago EV

Apart from the Altroz launch, Tata is also working on an updated version of the Tata Tiago EV. The car has been spotted testing several times recently.

Reports suggest Tata could replace the current 19 kWh battery pack with a larger 24 kWh battery in the base model. Higher variants may get an even bigger 30 kWh battery pack.

With these updates, the driving range could increase to around 366 km on a single charge. The updated Tiago EV is expected to launch later this month.

Tata Sierra EV Launch Also Expected

Tata is also preparing to introduce the electric version of the Tata Sierra EV. The company had already showcased the Sierra earlier, and testing of the EV version has been going on for quite some time.

Reports suggest the Sierra EV could arrive in the Indian market in the second quarter of 2026. Its design is expected to remain very similar to the ICE version of the SUV.
