Maruti Suzuki India Limited has recently launched the CNG variant of its popular SUV, the Fronx.
The vehicle is available in two variants: Sigma and Delta, priced at ₹8.41 lakh and ₹9.27 lakh respectively (ex-showroom).
It will be a direct competitor to the newly launched Hyundai Exter CNG.
Engine Powertrain of the Fronx
The Fronx SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Under normal conditions, the engine delivers a maximum power output of 88.50bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 4,400rpm.
However, when running on CNG, the power output reduces to 76bhp at 6,000rpm, with torque dropping to 98.5Nm at 4,300rpm.
The CNG powertrain is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Additional Engine Option
In addition to the 1.2-litre engine, there is also an option for a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine.
This engine, borrowed from the Baleno, produces a maximum power of 98bhp and a peak torque output of 148Nm.
It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Maruti Suzuki’s Dominance in CNG Vehicles
Maruti Suzuki holds the distinction of having the largest portfolio of CNG vehicles in India.
With over 1.4 million S-CNG vehicles sold to date, the company currently offers 15 CNG models in the Indian market.
