Flight operations at Pune Airport came to a sudden halt after an incident involving an Indian Air Force aircraft disrupted the runway.
Sudden Disruption at Pune Airport
The incident made the runway temporarily unusable, forcing authorities to suspend flight operations for several hours.
According to the IAF, the aircrew involved were safe, and there was no damage to civilian property.
Work began immediately to restore the runway and resume normal operations.
Flights Cancelled, Passengers Affected
The disruption had a major impact on airline schedules.
Several flights were cancelled across airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express.
In total, dozens of arrivals and departures were affected, leaving passengers stranded and causing delays throughout the day.
Quick Response to Restore Operations
Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, said that repair work was carried out on a “war footing.”
Authorities focused on fixing the runway as quickly as possible while ensuring safety remained the top priority.
Initial estimates suggested it could take around five hours to restore normal operations.
Runway Back in Action
After inspections and necessary clearances, the runway was declared operational again.
Departure flights resumed early in the morning, followed by arrivals shortly after.
Operations are being restarted in phases to avoid further disruption.
Situation Returning to Normal
With the runway now functional, flight services at Pune Airport are gradually returning to normal.
Officials have confirmed once again that the aircrew are safe and no civil property was damaged.
While the situation caused temporary chaos, quick action helped bring operations back on track within hours.
